Whats been going on.

So I've decided that I have spent enough time away from the blogosphere and the rest of this whole side of the world for long enough. This is now my first blog in a long time but I am going to just try to jump right back into it.

Hopefully we will be getting Our Perspective the podcast going here again about once a week, as soon as Kevin decides to send me his schedule so we can figure out a time that would work to do it. I am really excited to start doing it again, and bring a little bit more college feel to it.

I suppose I should share a little bit about what has been going on for me since I last wrote a blog or did a podcast. Well, mainly, I am at college now. Thats basically it. So anyone one of you that has been to college you know what I mean.

But college is really cool, I am a Music Education major right now, so I have a lot of fun classes. Recital lab, voice lesson, choir, music theory, stuff like that, its all fun. I also just signed with the newest fraternity here on the USD campus, Phi Kappa Theta. I was just elected Public Relations Chairman. I recommend the greek experience to everyone going to college, you won't be disappointed (if you are at USD you should check out Phi Kappa Theta, just give me a shout out if you want some info).

We also just this year are getting an Ultimate Frisbee club going here at USD. It's going really good, we have a bunch of good players already. We are also doing a fundraiser for Halloween. We are putting on a haunted house on the 31st. 5-9 for everyone. Then 10-whenever for 21 and older(I've heard you get a free shot for going but don't tell anyone I told you that). Other than those two things, I've been going to church and singing a lot. I am also working at a help desk for the Computer Science 105 class this year. It's really fun, I get to help out all of the people that don't know how to use computers and we have a good time.

But once again, I think I have gone on for to long. So hopefully, if anyone is still interested, Our Perspective should be coming back to life here shortly, I will keep you posted. But I will talk to you all later.

I'm sorry that I haven't written a blog in a while. I have been moving to college, working, and doing other random crap all over. I am actually in the middle of building the new websites for the radio station in Mitchell, Q107 and KORN. You check out the websites that will hopefully soon be replaced here. Q107 and KORN.

The Costly Olympic Games

Well the 29th World Olympics kicked off in Beijing today, and I watched it live at work. The stream that I found was from some European site so the commentary was not in English. So while watching it I was reading on of the BBC commentator's blogs that was updated every couple of minutes.

All in all I think it was pretty decent. The fireworks were amazing and there are a lot of people there. I liked how everyone got into the shape of the world and stuff, it was all pretty neat.

I think that the Olympics are fairly over-rated though. Just to be blunt, I don't think it should be as big a deal as they are making it. I mean the opening ceremonies there, how much did that probably cost? I did a little bit of research, found this website, which puts us at almost 2 billion dollars for the olympics.....

Ok guys, seriously? Almost 2 billion dollars?

And this was only China's cost at hosting the games. Think of all of the money wasted everywhere else on advertising and television time. Gas money to drive and fly to China. Everything adds up and it is a horribly high price.

Now I realize that this is the best of the best, the most accomplished athletes in the world, but 2 billion dollars? I don't know, maybe its just me, but that seems like a lot of money to be throwing around on a bunch of sporting events when all I hear back home here is 'WE ARE GOING INTO A RECESSION!' 'PRICES ARE GOING UP!' 'TAXES ARE ON THE RISE!' and things like, 'WE NEED TO HELP AFRICA!' 'THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING FROM DISEASES!' 'DONATE TO THIS CHARITY!'

Maybe we could just spend a little bit less on the Olympics, and help support some other parts of civilization that really need it.

Aliens or Bust

I was thinking that I have to get a new blog post up here, its been a while since I had had one. (At least it isn't as long as Kevin has been without a new blog.)

So when thinking about something to write about, I decided to take one of the topics from a previous episode of 'Our Perspective' and write a little bit more in depth about it. I thought I would write a little bit more about what I think about aliens.

As you may know, I whole-heartedly believe that there is some sort of extra-terrestrial beings out there. There has to be, somewhere out in the universe. Just a couple of days ago on the podcast, we had a story about how big the universe is getting. I think it was somewhere in the 160 billion light-year range. Whether you believe in evolution or creation, I don't think it makes a difference. Either somewhere on another planet, life has evolved, or some being would have created life on another planet.

Then I look at how long our Earth has been around. Somewhere around 5 billion years old... Homosapiens have been around for somewhere in the 250,000 years mark. That means the Earth is about 20,000 times older than humans. I think it is possible that there was another humanoid species on Earth before us, got to a very advanced stage and left Earth before it went into one of its ice age periods or something and they left no trace. We would never know about them.

Then you have to look at the fact that earlier this summer, Pope Benedict just said that it was ok for Catholics to believe in aliens..... If that isn't reason enough to believe that aliens are out there, i don't know what is.

So aliens exist... confirmed.

Now about all of the UFO sightings... probably not true. Look at it this way. If there is another civilization out there, with technologies capable of travelling to our planet, they probably have technology enough to not be seen. They also would probably not just float around in the sky letting people video tape them, they would probably try some way of communicating or something.

So now we know that aliens are real but they probably aren't flying around Earth abducting people.

Frog Disaster

So I'm sorry about the last post, maybe it was just to early to try to name them or maybe they just didn't like the attention. I assume that both of them are dead. I say assume they are dead because I can't find one of them. I have found one, he was sitting at the bottom of the aquarium the other day when I woke up. The other one....was gone. I don't know if the other frog ate him, or if he disintegrated, or if he just flew away, but he is gone.

So assuming that both frogs are dead I don't think that we can have the naming contest anymore. Sad I know, but its not like all 15 million of my readers submitted names, so I don't think to many people are going to be heart broken. But maybe in the future we will do something like this again, because now I just bought an aquarium and all the fixings and they are sitting empty. We will see though. It will probably be after school starts before I would get anything else though. Thanks to those of you that did send in frog name ideas though.

So right now I am in Sioux Falls for the Reunion Honor's Choir. I had a few extra hours to do nothing so I decided to right a new blog and share that bad news. Good news though, I got the Techfellowship at USD for next year, which is pretty exciting, it pays for quite a bit of school, so all is good in the paying-for-school department.

Dwarf Frogs!

Well I got two new pets for when I go off to college. I just bought two dwarf frogs. They are about an inch long, green with black spots. This is not a picture of mine because I couldn't get one, but this is exactly what they look like. One is a little bit bigger than the other. And I want everyone that is reading my blog or listening to the podcast to help me name them.
So 1. You have to do is send me your name suggestions. Send them to my email, devvon@gmail.com, send them to ourperspectiveradio@gmail.com, write them on our facebook wall, or send me a message on facebook. Send me what you think would be good names for my two dwarf frogs.

Movies Lately

So just last night I finally rented '21'. I sat down with my girlfriend and a couple of other friends and we watched it. I don't think it was as good as everybody made it out to be when it was in the theater. When it was on the big screen, I had never heard of it but everybody going to it said is was amazing and that I should see it. I didn't take their advice to go to it, I just rented it now....It's cheaper....

So if you haven't seen '21' yet, its about a couple of MIT students that go to Las Vegas every weekend to make money counting cards because they are smart enough to do it. Then of course trouble ensues, not to give the whole movie away, but you could have probably guessed as much. But I think this movie did about as good a job as you could, making a movie about college kids counting cards. I think it was a well done movie, it just couldn't have gotten any better than about average for me based on the plot of it.

Then a couple of days ago I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I first just want to say that it is not my favorite movie of all time but it was a good movie. I loved the Joker and how Heath Ledger played him. I think that had to be one of the most fun parts you could ever want to play. The whole, I am going to blow things up to make a statement and just because its fun, not because I want anything, is priceless. It gives the villain one up on the hero because he really doesn't care what happens.

But just because I liked the Joker doesn't mean I liked the whole movie. Now Batman....Why Batman do you talk like you smoke a carton a day. I don't get it. You sound dumb. That right there ruins the whole Batman is cool thing for me, (Batman is still cool, just not Christian Bale as Batman). But maybe thats just me, I'll just have to get over it.

That brings us to Two-Face, behind the Joker, probably one of the coolest characters out there. I think that is a cool concept for justice, just give everyone an unbiased 50-50 chance at life. So while the character is cool, what the heck happened to his face? I don't know but I am pretty sure fire isn't that generous. 'I think I am only going to burn half of your face. How does that sound Mr. Dent?' No....I am pretty sure it would have burned all of it, if it burned that half so badly. And wouldn't his eye like kind of dry out without having an eye lid there....Maybe we need to go and rethink everything a little bit and redo Mr. Two-Face a little.....Thanks.....

Ok, One more movie. On a past episode of Our Perspective, Kevin talked about the movie 'Rendition'. So I figured I would go and check it out. I got it home and popped it in and was very surprised. I thought it was a good movie. *Warning, do not get this movie if you do not want to see blood, torture, etc. Also, don't get this movie if you are not interested in the Middle Eastern conflicts and things like the Patriot Act.* So about three fourths of the way through I thought this movie is getting really long and it isn't very good. Then everything started falling into place and I just about crapped a turtle. If you get this movie, make sure you watch it all the way to the end, it is worth it. Again, not a top ten movie I think, but definitely a good one.
